- A State of Emergency has been declared by the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services as a result of Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana and Texas as of August 27th, August 28th in Mississippi and August 29th in Alabama. The following Web site is provided to help answer your questions about CMS waivers and modifications that apply during the State of Emergency.

- The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) opened the first shelter for Mississippians with Special Medical Needs at Hinds Community College, 501 Main Street in Raymond. For more information, call 1-866-HLTHY4U.

- There is a  2-1-1 Mississippi Donation Hotline, staffed by United Way of the Capital Area. This hotline connects people with important community services (inlcuding information on hurricane shelters) and volunteer opportunities. * Volunteers in Preparedness Registry - A database maintained by the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) that contains contact and credential information on health care professionals who have registered in advance to be volunteers in case of a disaster.  MSDH will need contact information including two telephone numbers and or an email address which absolutely can be relied upon for emergency alert and message delivery; professional license number; specialty certification (if any); and where, when, and for what duration you are willing to serve during times of disaster. You can register for VIPR at http://volunteer.msdh.state.ms.us.
