WEBINAR: Fiduciary Obligations and Conflicts of Interest

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This webinar will address state and federal laws and guidance for hospital governance obligations, legal risks for those in hospital governance and protections from individual liability. The webinar also will review hospital governance best practices, including a discussion of how to handle conflicts of interest and legal references to state and federal laws and guidance. Participants will learn practical lessons they can apply in their governance activities.

SPEAKER

Alissa Smith, attorney with Dorsey & Whitney, represents health systems, hospitals, pharmacies, long-term care providers, home health agencies, medical practices, and nonprofit and municipal organizations. Her transactional practice includes contracts, leases, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures. Smith’s regulatory practice includes the interpretation and application of state and federal fraud and abuse laws, Medicare and Medicaid rules, tax-exemption laws, privacy and EMTALA laws, licensing matters, employment laws, governmental audits, and open records and open meetings matters. She represents health care providers before the State Health Facilities Council in certificate of need hearings and represents hospitals in meaningful-use audits.
